Ten runners have died in the London Marathon since 1981.
However, since news of her death broke, cash has been pouring in at an amazing rate of hundreds of dollars a minute. By Tuesday afternoon there were over 50,000 thousand ВPdonationsВPtotalingВPalmost $1,000,000 USD.
But her death was not in vain as it contributed to an outpouring of donations for her charity. According to she had been running for a suicide support group called Samaritans. Her brother, Grant, died from an overdose at age 25 and her mother, Priscilla, has been a volunteer at the charity for a number of years. She had raised about $800 from family and friends for the charity by the time SundayвІ s race began. “If everyone I know could donate $8 that would be a great help and change lives,” Claire had commented on her Facebook page.
Claire Squires, 30, from Leicestershire, England collapsed and died less than one mile from the finish of the London Marathon on Sunday. Unfortunately she could not be revived by medical staff.
